Decon Presents Renewable Energy Solutions to Government Leaders

Jesse Falk
Last month Decon were thrilled to welcome the Federal Minister for Communications, Michelle Rowland MP, and VIC Senator, Linda White, to our large manufacturing headquarters located in Melbourne's outer east.

The visit coincided with the deployment of 33 Smart Power Cells across 5 Local Government Authorities in Queensland as part of nbn® Australia's disaster resilience program. Communications Minister, Michelle Rowland, was quoted as saying, “We know how important connectivity is for homes, businesses and communities and never more so than in time of natural disaster. Access to reliable communications can be the difference between life and death.”

During their visit, we had the privilege of showcasing our end-to-end manufacturing operation including our extensive range of renewable energy products such as the Multi-Technology Trailer and Cell on Wheels. Many of our innovative clean energy products have been developed under the Strengthening Telecommunications Against Natural Disasters (STAND) federal funding, in partnership with major telecommunications providers, including nbn® Australia and TPG Telecom. The focus was, however, primarily fixed on our revolutionary Smart Power Cell which has been successfully deployed right across the country, enhancing disaster resilience at remote or unpowered telecommunication sites.

In addition to the recent deployment in QLD, we’ve also been working with Office of the NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer to deploy the SPC solution at some of their more remote sites as part of their Bushfire Technology Pilots Program and supported Telstra with an SPC trial over a 2+ year period at an off-grid site. Indeed, with its remarkable versatility, the Smart Power Cell allows seamless customisation of integrated technologies for any site, and with grant funding by the Victorian Government, we are working diligently on developing another prototype that includes AC capability.

Our discussions with Minister Rowland and Senator White centered around the critical importance of reliable and clean energy backup solutions for essential communication infrastructure, especially in the face of natural disasters. With 100 monitored units deployed nation-wide, the Smart Power Cell plays a pivotal role in ensuring seamless communication during challenging times and serves as a cornerstone of disaster resilience efforts nationwide.

Minister Rowland's keen interest in our technology and its significant contribution to disaster resilience has reaffirmed our commitment to further innovation and development in this field. We are proud to be an entirely Australian-owned and operated company, making a difference in strengthening Australia's disaster preparedness and response capabilities.
